Remember: Anything in addition to the required work is extra credit.
1. Trace your two hands together in a unique way.
2. Think of an interesting name for your island. Put the name as the title of your map. As you label each part of your map, try to use words that relate to the title.
3. Label two peninsulas and an isthmus.
4. Label a bay and a gulf along the island’s coastline.
5. Show hills overlooking the bay. Label the hills.
6. Draw a two series of peaks in the center of the island to indicate two mountain ranges. Label the ranges. Color the tallest mountain peak yellow to represent the highest point of elevation. Color the other peaks brown. Create a valley between the two ranges. Color the valley a deep dark green. Label the valley.
7. Draw a river south of the mountain range. Have the river flow from the east to the west and turn southwest before entering the ocean. Color the river blue. Label both the river and the delta.
8. Show one part of the river branching off into a small lake. Label the lake and the tributary. Color the river branch and the lake blue.
9. Locate a coastal plain and color it green. Then label it.
10. Create a desert area. Color the area tan. Within the desert include a plateau (use a symbol) and an oasis. Label the plateau Color and label the oasis (be detailed).
11. Create a forest (use symbols). Color and label it.
12. Locate a swamp at one edge of the coastal plain. Color the swamp orange and then label it.
13. Off the coast of your island draw an atoll with a lagoon. Label both.
14. Color the ocean and all the water surrounding the island blue. Use darker shades of blue/purple to show how the ocean deepens. Label the ocean.
15. Any other landforms you choose to include must be colored, labeled, and included in your key. These extra landforms will count as extra credit.
16. Create a map key to explain the colors, and symbols used on your map. Also, include a compass rose and a scale. Each color you use on your map should have a color representation and label within your key.
17. Make sure all your parts are labeled, colored, and represented in your key.
